Dhimitraq Duni, Southeast Regional Representative, NMCTM
I was born in Tirana, Albania into a family that valued education and saw teaching as a way of life. I earned my Maters Degree in Applied Statistics at DePaul University in Chicago, and my Doctorate in Mathematics Education at Illinois State University. For the last ten years I have taught in college settings, with the last eight working with pre-service elementary and secondary teachers. I have also worked with in-service teachers in developing curriculum materials as well as conduct research in their classrooms. My current research focuses on the pedagogical content knowledge that teachers display when they teach statistics in middle school. These experiences, as well as my education and my family, have made me an advocate for higher education. I came to NM in 2018 and I am now an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the Mathematical Sciences department at EMNU. As NMCTM Southeast Regional Representative, I look forward to the opportunity to be a resource for local teachers, helping them better serve a diverse student body.
