NMCTM Saturday Snapshots

NM Math Teachers, Community,

It is with great pleasure that the New Mexico Council of Teachers of Mathematics kicks off its second round of Saturday Snapshots – remote professional development / workshops for teachers of New Mexico or other interested educational leaders. Sessions are both live/synchronous, and yet recorded for viewership later.

This fall there will be three presentations, and we already have two planned for Spring. We provide all of the dates now so that teachers can plan accordingly. As we receive resources and get closer to the later presentations, we will update the resources below. Of course, these are all Saturdays!

  2. October 22nd, 10:30am – 11:30am, JA of New Mexico, Jordana Thompson, Programs Coordinator JA

Spring Presentations: (forthcoming)

If you are interested in presenting, please submit your proposal. All remaining times for the fall of 2022 have been taken, but we are accepting proposals for this upcoming Spring and the fall of next school year!

Again, we thank you for your continued support of the NMCTM. All Saturday Snapshot sessions are open to the public, however, participants are required to identify themselves and their institution/affiliation in the waiting room before being allowed entry. We encourage our membership and others to spread the word, and we look forward to learning about exciting math resources / approaches available to NM educators!

NMCTM Announces Monthly Saturday Snapshots!

Math Teachers and the greater community,

We are pleased to announce that we are beginning monthly Saturday Snapshots – online professional development live streams for math teachers brought to you by the NMCTM. We shall be delivering one session per month, covering topics of interest that span math teacher needs from K-12. For the first few presenters, we are leveraging some of our in-house membership and current board members. However, we also are calling upon our membership to step up to the table, either to:

1) Submit your name as a potential presenter for one of the Saturdays.

2) Submit ideas of what presentation topics you would like to see offered.

Those that choose to participate are welcome to participate in the sessions, ask questions, or just check in and watch. However, we don’t require live attendance, nor do have a cap. That is, all sessions are synchronously delivered, but recorded and shared on TeacherTube for asynchronous use for those who could not attend live. We welcome membership and the greater community to participate in whichever way they see fit.

We have prepared a one-pager for math teachers and the greater community to share with their institutions or to other interested colleagues. Our sessions are planned for the first Saturday in each month, with November 7th being tentatively scheduled as our first planned NMCTM Saturday Snapshot. We are currently booked through February. There will be more details, including the live stream link, the specific time, etc., released when we post again next week with the NMCTM Saturday Snapshot Calendar. For now, we just wanted to let you know what we were up to, encourage you to submit ideas, and give you some time to bring this flier and the proposal back to your sites.

Remember, math teachers benefit from sharing and watching the best practices of other math teachers. We look forward to hearing from you!
