Math Teachers, Educators, Community Members,
First of all, we hope all the NM teachers are getting a restful summer. The fall school year is coming upon us quickly and we wanted to take this time now to let our constituents know what we are up to! This fall, our NCTM Representative, Ronda Davis, will be traveling to the NCTM Annual Meeting and Exposition in Los Angeles, CA. The national conference always delivers, with presentations spanning over two days, and the latest pedagogical approaches and practices from both within and outside of the NCTM network. We strongly encourage our membership to attend if possible, but/and we will make sure that we report out on the latest when Ronda returns in October later this year.
We also want to encourage our membership to read the April 2022 message from the NCTM President, Trena Wilkerson. Her message focused on five principles that will motivate our work at the NMCTM and that we want to share with our community as well:
- President’s Message
- Working Together in Teaching and Learning Mathematics
- Bringing Joy to Teaching and Learning Mathematics
- Developing a Deep Understanding of Mathematics
- Learning More About Effective Teaching Practices
- Appreciating Teachers with Words and Actions
In accordance with these values about teaching and learning, the NMCTM will be continuing its Saturday Snapshots for the 2022-2023 school year. Saturday Snapshots are synchronous or asynchronous remote professional development sessions that are recorded, blogged, and hosted by the NMCTM board. We will offer sessions in September, October, November, January, February, and March. You can apply to present here:
Also, before we leave you, we want to encourage you to renew your dues and/or join us for the first time! You can renew your membership dues by navigating to the front page and clicking membership. You may also click here. Make sure to print your certificate and show your evaluator this fall. Lastly, we will be hosting our Annual Meeting virtually this October, and we encourage NM teachers and educational leaders to join our leadership ranks. Here are the links to apply for our board positions:
Again, continue to enjoy the summer! Remember, we are here to advocate for you, offer professional development and to help nurture your journey in educational leadership for mathematics! Get involved and help us create a better ecosystem of mathematics learning in NM.
